Comic Day 9/30/2009.

This week's haul.

X-Men Forever #8
X-Force #19
X-Factor #49
New Mutants #5
Wolverine Weapon X #5 Variant
Wolverine Weapon X #5

Hulk #15
Son of Hulk #15
Punisher Annual #1
Amazing Spider-Man #607
Thor #603

The Pound #1
Justice Society of America #31
Runaways #14
Secret Warriors #8
Thunderbolts #136

A lot of good stuff this week. From Wolverine Weapon X to X-Force and X-Factor to Runaways to Secret Warriors to Thor, Hulk and Amazing Spider-Man. Weapon X is classic Wolverine, doing what he does best. X-FOrce is the deadly side of the X-Men and right now X-23 is having her arms waved around in front of her. With X-Factor Jamie Madrox has time traveled to a possible future, as usual it seems, where Mutants aren't doing so hot. Maybe with the help of a senile yet still genius Doctor Doom the problems of this futrure can be solved. As for the Runaways, what's not to love about a pack of kids trying to runaway from being like their super villain parents? All they want is a place of their own without all the problems of adults. Over in Secret Warriors it's Nick Fury running a rag tag team of nobodies into capable heroes to take down Norman Osborn's H.A.M.M.E..R. that replaced S.H.I.E.L.D.. Currently it looks like it's about to be father vs. son as Ares, Gad of War, may have to fight his son, the God of Fear. With Thor, it's Thor, he's the God of Thunder, I need say no more. Saying he's been banished from Asgard though doesn't hurt, and that he's at one of his lowest moments of power. Then in Hulk, it's still the question of who is the Red Hulk? Domino may have accidentally stumbled onto the answer, but now she's been chased down by a teeam the red Hulk has put together to kill her when she's found. But she's called on some friends of her own for backup, Wolverine and the X-Force. Finally there's Amazing Spider-Man. Last ish the beautiful Black Cat laid one on him and a live feed camera happened to be rolling and guess who saw everything? The hottest redhead in the Marval U, Mary Jane Watson. The life of Peter Parker is never boring, it's also never easy.

Still no boards and bags this week, but oh well. Saw that the comic shop had 4 volumes of The Boys trades. I plan to pick them up when I can. Wouldn't be so bad if they weren't $20 a piece. Violence & vulgarity like that though is worth it. Superheroes at their worst, which makes them at their best in a twisted way. I also spotted an old trade of the Adam Warren Dirty Pair comic. It was the tenth anniversary of the first series, Biohazards. Going to have to try and pick that up next week.

While I was in Greenville I though it would be wise to stop by the Barnes & Noble and check to see if they have any copies of Gunsmith Cats Burst volume 4. Since it just came out I thought they might have some in. Looked around and didn't see it on the shelves so I talked to the guy at the customer service kiosk and he said he had it on order. Gave him my info and I should get an email when it comes in.

Now if you'll excuse me I have some reading material to go get lost in.

One comic box shelf finished, one to go.

So my neighbor finally got around to building my comic box shelves. Well, shelf, I'm not sure if he understood I needed two. Either way, it's cool, I at least have one now. He does awesome work, way better than I can do whenever I make a sad attempt at working with wood. Though he doesn't like painting, that I had to do myself. Not a problem at all.

First off I'm going to need some tunes. The only portable stereo/boom-box I have is an old dual cassette deck with a completely broken off antenna. So crap, what's a guy to do? Redneck Engineering 101 of course!

Yes, for those of you with a good pair of eyes, that is a coat hanger. It's wrapped around the carry handle to give it something to keep it standing up. All it needs to do is make contact with where the antenna broke off to get good enough reception for the local classic rock station. Now you know one more use besides hanging clothes and abortions for a metal coat hanger.

Alright, primered and ready for paint. I waited until the next day to get to the paint.

And there we have it. Completely painted just waiting to dry and be taken in the house. Took two coats of satin black to get full coverage.

Finally in the house and filled with comic boxes. Was a PITA to get it up stairs, but it was done. Would've happened sooner but thanks to there being 12 shelves painting took longer than expected. Especially since I hadn't planned to do two coats of color. Anyways, it looks much better than having them on the floor lined up against the wall.

Which, as you can see I still have a few more boxes just sitting around on the floor. 14 actually, 13 filled with 1 empty, that will get used once I get back to sorting the box-less comics on the floor, to be precise. Well that's it for now I reckon. Maybe sooner or later I'll get around to showing off the anime collection.

Comic Day 9/23/2009.

Well here it is, Wednesday, new comic day. As usual for comic day, it's a good day in general for me. Alright, let's get straight to the point and on to the pictures of this weeks comics.

Justice League of America #37
Batwoman Detective Comics #857
Halo: Helljumper #3
G.I. JOE #9 Cover B
Gold Digger #5 Halloween Special

Avengers Initiative #28
New Avengers #57
Fantastic Four #571
Ms. Marvel #45
Incredible Hercules #135
Incredible Hulk #6o2
Amazing Spider-Man #606

Wolverine First Class #19
Wolverine Origins # 40
Wolverine: Old Man Logan Giant Size #1
Uncanny X-Men #515
X-Men: Dark Reign: The List #1
Dark X-Men: The Confession #1
Astonishing X-Men Sketchbook

And there you have it. Current favorites out of this week are the Batwoman Detective Comics, Wolverine Old Man Logan and Amazing Spider-Man. The art and art layout is just amazing in Batwoman. Easily one of the hottest things in comics right now. Old Man Logan is a hell of a story, and the Giant Size concludes it. And poor Peter Parker, that guy can't ever catch a break. And when he does, it rarely really is. Great stuff happening in Amazing Spider-Man these days.

I had planned to grab a pack of boards and bags again this week. As my luck would have it, they were out of boards so I passed up on getting just bags. Hopefully next week they'll have them in stock. That and maybe my damn copy of The Goon TPB volume 0 will finally come in. I've had it on order for a couple of months now. Either way I do need those bags & boards. I've got about 4-6 months of Marvel comics sitting in the floor of the media room. Most of them boarded & bagged, yet until all of them are as so I can't start to box them. At lest I did get the DC and INdie stuff off the floor and boxed.

Well, that's it for now. I'll be back in a week with another comic day report.

AX '96 Poster.

A long time ago I came across an image on the internet that blew me away. It was filled with chibi character after chibi character of anime. That image was of the 1996 Anime Expo Poster. I have since put together my own home made version of the poster.

Now, I am capable of spotting and naming my fair share of the characters and series that appear on the poster. I also, almost every time I stare at it long enough, find something I had overlooked before. The question is who can you spot?
Currently I am in the hopes of having ever character in the AX '96 Poster named and listed. To do this I have posted a thread in a few anime forums on the internet. Those forums would be the Anime Nation forums, the Anime News Network forums, and the Anime-Planet forums.

The Hobbies.

Aight, so I have a few hobbies. Typical things a geek may be interested in. From anime to gaming to comics to model building (which I haven't done any in a long while) figure collecting and other odds and ends of collecting. Lets run down these things I'm into one by one giving a summery of each.

For starters, there's anime. I've been into it since I was 12 when I first watch Akira after renting it from Blockbuster. Needless to say my mind was blown away like a deadite by Ash's boomstick. I watched it 3 times and had no clue what the hell was going on. All I knew was that it was awesome. That if this is what cartoons really have to offer I'm sold. So ever since then I've been a fan of anime and over the years I have amassed what I would think is an impressive DVD collection and other anime merchandise.

But before anime there was my love of video games. I've grown up playing them. My older sisters had an Atari 2600 and that was my introduction to video games. But what I cut my teeth on was the NES. It was the first system I could call my own. I still have that first NES and go back to it every so often. Though the foreplay of blowing into the cartridge is what causes me to walk away again most of the time. I love the nostalgic feel of playing the NES, but if I have to treat it like a woman before sex I rather just snuggle up to the whores of modern systems. So yeah, I've been a gamer since I could remember.

Ah, and now on to comics. If I keep this journal thing going you will likely see me post each Wednesday on and about comics. For those of you that don't know, Wed. is the day new comics are released every week. I haven't always been what I'd call a Wednesday Warrior. Only in the past 3 years or so have I gotten into comics really heavily. Before, I read and collected them in my adolescent years and early teen years. Some where around the age of 16 I basically dropped comics. Not surprising really, geeky I may be, but I am a car guy. What 16 year old wants to stay still when they have a license? Anyways, I got turned onto comics thanks to one of my sister's boyfriends. He just gave me a stack of his old comics. And it was thanks to comics that I learned to read well past my age, much to the surprise of elementary school teachers.

Next, the model building. This stems from just me being a car guy. I think I've always liked cars, they were the toys I played with most as a kid and sometimes I still play with Hot Wheels cars. I'm not sure when I started building model cars, but I do know I built quite a few. The first one's I did don't look that great though. Like a lot of things I've learned how to do, I learned how to build models on my own. And I didn't start with snap-tight kits. Oh no, my stupid kid brain said grab the ones with all that detail. So yeah, as usual for me I learned things the hard way.

And finally, there's all the stuff I collect. From anime figures to diecast cars to random toy cars to for no known reason, Pringles can lids. There's more random stuff, but it's not coming to mind. Either way, I collect stuff, just like anybody else. As George Carlin would say, "Your house is a place to keep all your stuff. And when you run out of room for your stuff it's time to get a bigger house." That's not the exact quote, but it's close enough for now.

Eh, lets try this out.

So, here I sit on my couch staring at the TV typing this up. That means I obviously have nothing better to do at the moment. Well, sleep would be better, yet here I am.

So first thing on the agenda is to say I don't like a lot of technology the internet has brought mankind. That and internet speak, language and terminology. Such as the words blog, blogging, blogger and any and all other terms people have come up with as to what to call this. When really what I think they just couldn't stand to do was name it with the words we already have. Words that work just fine as is, that don't need to be hip, trendy, new and most of all look stupid. At this point you're thinking, "oh yeah, and what would you call it?" That's easy. This, what I'm doing right now, is an internet journal, or diary (Which ever you want to use. Though as you can see I'm using journal since that does seem a bit more manly than diary.), that happens to be public.

Now I could continue with my ranting and raving about how internet technology has made most people complete idiots. But for now, all I'll say is texting is nigga technology.
